The Scottish Borders Donkey Sanctuary

The Holmes, St Boswells, Melrose TD6 0EL, UK – 01835 823468

Lovely place to visit for children & adults. Normally donkeys have colour coded harnesses which allow you to recognise your adopted/sponsored donkey. There are other animals to see to inc llamas, horses, muled & pigs. Easily spend 2-3 hours there. Mainly flat. Didn't see a coffee shop. That might income generate. Always nice to stop for coffee & cake 😊

The Donkey Sanctuary truly is a wonderful place, always has been. The Sanctuary begun offering a safe home for retired beach donkeys where they could enjoy their retirement in lovely open fields, and of course being looked after very well indeed. Over time, more than just donkeys have been added to the Sanctuary, but the same principle remaons: all of the animals are treated very well by groups of volunteers. And of course, they get lots of people coming to visit. Entry to the sanctuary is by donation, a suggested £3 however you can give what you want. You can also buy tokens to use in feeding mahines around the sanctuary, each token costs 50p, and gets you a small handful of food pellets. The donkeys all love being fed by their visitors, and are more than happy for you to pet them. They're good with smaller kids, too. If you love donkeys, or just love animals in general, then The Donkey Sanctuary is well worth a visit!

Dryburgh Abbey Hotel

Dryburgh Abbey Hotel, Newtown St Boswells, Melrose TD6 0RQ, UK – 01835 822261

Very nice and staff were lovely and friendly. I was only having a cup of tea with some knitting friends, but we were made most welcome. I will definitely go back in future.

Amazing beautiful location! The Abbey is great. It's a must visit when you drive by. Also go to the Scott's view, it's a beautiful viewpoint and great to take pictures.
